Music Workshop
Introduction to DJing with DJ Shiftee
Finally—the turntable is no longer off-limits! Your kids may not yet know what a turntables is, but they’ll love this intro to using records to create music. You might learn a thing or two yourself!
DubSpot is an electronic music production and DJ school in New York City, and the premier music school for both experienced and aspiring young artists alike. In this workshop, kids get a taste for DJing through basic mixing and scratching. They’ll get a hands-on tutorial in DJ equipment and learn how to handle, play and mix records through Serato Scratch Live.
The workshop will feature DJ Shiftee, one of the premiere battle DJs in the world. Turntablist. Party rocker. Harvard math grad. Battle DJ. Composer. Producer. He is the 2007 DMC Supremacy World Champion (only U.S. champ ever), 2008 IDA/ITF World Vice Champion, and the self-proclaimed greatest sandwich maker of all time. Using two turntables and a mixer as his instruments, Shiftee actively performs turntablist showcases, experimental group projects, and party sets throughout the globe. Known as an established force on the international DJ scene, Shiftee has translated his intuitive math geek mentality into far-reaching success on the turntables.

Dance Workshop
Intro to Mosaic Soul Style of Dancing
Mosaic Soul is the dance style, Afro Mosaic Soul is the collective.
The newest form of African American social dance has risen from the underground. It carries the genetic traits of its forbears: African dance, Latin dance, tap, modern, popping & locking, break-dancing (b-boying), hip hop, house dance, lofting and capoiera to name a few. This new style was forged when the love of dancing to soulful house music expanded.
The Mosaic Soul style of House Dance tutorial is open to all ages. The technical aspect of the movement might not catch on right away but the rhythm and flow catches on at a deeper level, to access and connect to at a later time.
Music provided by DJ Special (Afro Mosaic Soul) & DJ Gibril Kuyateh of The GiKu Experience Radio Show (Giant Step Jukebox, Afro Mosaic Soul)

Electro Afro-Funk
Kindred Spirit Records
Chico Mann is the multi-faceted side project of Marcos Garcia, guitar player from Antibalas. Casio keyboards, turntables spinning afrobeat breaks, latin percussion and vocals combine to make up Chico Mann‘s dance floor pulsating presentation. What had started as Marcos Garcia‘s personal Casio Afrobeat experiment has blossomed into a genre-defying, life-affirming, sweaty, politicized dance party that is evolving at an exponential rate.
